Success With Flex: 3 Great Hybrid Workplace Concepts

Posted by:

In this article, we present three successful examples of companies who have managed to introduce a flexible work concept and explain how they were able to do so.

1. Flaconi

First in line is Flaconi, a German online shop for perfumes and part of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. Attempting to satisfy both home office lovers and employees who miss the company of peers too much, they have given their workers the choice between being a ‘traveller’ or ‘settler’. Settlers have a fixed desk in the Flaconi office, but can work one day per week from home or elsewhere. Travellers, on the other hand, are allowed to work remotely up to three days a week. However, they do not have their “own” fixed desk in the office and need to book an available desk every time they wish to visit the office.

Fixed and flexible desks are spread across the office so both groups keep sitting next to each other. Usually, teams define one day per week when all team members come to the office in order to keep up the team spirit and to enhance collaboration. The additional gained office space has been transformed into a common area to work and socialize with colleagues.

2. Google

Google has also recently introduced its future workplace. They are introducing new places to work, such as multi-purpose offices, meeting pods and campfire meeting spaces. Advanced video technology helps to increase the presence of coworkers joining meetings virtually. The introduction of a flexible work week allows employees to work in the office around three days a week. On the other two days, they can work from home or elsewhere. In addition, Google is allowing more flexibility in terms of work location next to introducing work-from-anywhere weeks, focus time and reset days. We already knew this before, but thanks for repeating it Google: The future of work is flexible!

3. Microsoft

Actually, smart working is not that new in Microsoft. Already a couple of years ago, Microsoft started to redesign its office buildings all around the world having three main factors in mind: space, technology and people. Whilst designing offices with flexibility as the core value, technology aims at supporting people in making the most out of their days. Today, Microsoft employees are working on flex desks, common areas or from home, just how they prefer it!
